A Maritime Self-Defense Force submarine collides with an American nuclear submarine, crushing all 76 people on board, including CO Shiro Kaeda. However, the crew survives. The incident is a cover story of a Maritime Self-Defense Force (MSDF) submarine crew aboard the Seabat nuclear submarine secretly built by the Japanese and American governments. However, Kaida loads the Seabat with nuclear missiles and suddenly it rebels and escapes.
