Born on April 20, 1972, she initially pursued a career in singing and gained Prince's attention, who produced her self-titled debut studio album released in 1993.

Carmen Electra's career took a turn towards glamour modeling in 1996 when she appeared in Playboy magazine. Following this, she moved to Los Angeles, where she achieved breakthrough fame portraying Lani McKenzie in the action drama series Baywatch from 1997 to 1998.
