Gopalaratnam Subramaniam, professionally known as Mani Ratnam, born on June 2, 1956, is a highly acclaimed Indian film director, producer, and screenwriter. Primarily working in Tamil cinema, he has also made significant contributions to Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada films.

Mani Ratnam stands as one of India's most celebrated and commercially successful filmmakers, having received numerous accolades for his outstanding work. He has won six National Film Awards, four Filmfare Awards, and six Filmfare Awards South. In recognition of his contributions to Indian cinema, the Government of India honored him with the Padma Shri in 2002.
